Dan Matthews is a local artist who has lived in Central and South Florida most of his life. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1959. Drawing and painting wildlife began at a very early age. I remember back in the early 70's my parents taking us to the Boynton Inlet several times a week to fish or play in the surf. I was also an avid bass and bluegill fisherman while growing up. I started drawing large mouth bass while in grade school," Dan says. "In high school I learned to paint with watercolor, and I think that was the first time I thought about making money as an artist."
After high school, he made a trip to Alaska for the summer to earn a scolarship for college. "I had planned on just staying for the summer, and it turned into 8 years." There he was introduced to Fly-Fishing. "Fly fishing for trout and salmon in Alaska was an exprience that has shaped my life," say's Dan.
After moving back to Florida, he was introduced to the airbrush. "I have painted everything from scuba tanks to gun stocks to custom hot rods, hundreds of motorcycle parts to helicopters and airplanes. Since 1989 he has been satisfying repeat customers with his hand signed Matthews originals.
